Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Director: Guy Ritchie
Cast: Robert Downey Jr. / Jude Law / Rachel McAdams/ Mark Strong / Kelly Reilly
Genre: Action, Adventure, Mystery

Isn’t it adopted from the well-known stories by Conan Doyle? Isn’t it a detective film? Right, but also wrong! With Guy Ritchie, everything is totally different from what you have expected.

As a typical gentleman in the original work, Sherlock Holmes portrayed by Robert Downey is a big surprise to the audience. Messy, dizzy, freaky, Holmes is a disaster to Dr. Watson in daily life. He played violin when Watson was sleeping; he experimented on Watson’s dog; he stole Watson’s clothes etc.
But his odd behaviors were just the disguise of his extraordinary wisdom. Holmes is actually studying every possible clue to reach the truth. Violin inspired him; the experiment on the dog provided essential clue; Watson’ clothes disguised him.
Besides his detective skills, the director put emphasis on Holmes’s versatility. His major is consulting detective, while he is also good at boxing, fencing and chemical experiments.
Altogether, this Holmes is no longer a flat character. A mixture of Captain Jack and Iron Man. Just let your imagination take flight!?
